Refund Policy
Plain-English summary, then the legal version. Both apply.
The plain-English summary
- First 30 days are no-questions-asked. If you bought a paid subscription and want a full refund, ask within 30 days. We'll refund the full amount.
- Cancel anytime. Your access continues through the end of the paid period. We don't auto-bill after cancellation.
- Annual subscribers: if you cancel mid-year, we pro-rate and refund the unused months.
- Studio overage: usage past your monthly cost cap is metered and billed at cost+30%. Overage charges are non-refundable because the upstream provider already charged us for the usage. The cap is opt-in — you control whether overage is enabled at all.
- Chargebacks: please ask us first. We'll almost always refund directly faster than a card-issuer dispute.
The full policy
1. Eligibility for refund
We offer a full refund of any paid subscription fee within 30 days of the initial purchase. To request a refund, email support@dmbox.org from the email address on the account. We'll process the refund within 5 business days to the original payment method.
2. Pro-rated refunds for annual subscriptions
If you purchased an annual subscription and cancel mid-year more than 30 days after purchase, we refund the unused months on a calendar basis, rounded down to the nearest month. Example: cancel an annual subscription 3 months in, get the remaining 9 months refunded.
3. No refund on metered overage
Studio-tier users who opt into metered overage (charged at cost+30% per cent of usage past the monthly cap) cannot refund the overage portion of an invoice. Overage represents upstream provider charges (LLM tokens, voice synthesis, ASR seconds) already incurred on the user's behalf. Customers can disable overage at any time in Settings; future overage stops immediately.
4. No refund after 30 days for monthly subscriptions
Monthly subscriptions cancelled after 30 days are not refunded for the current billing cycle, but no further charges occur and access continues through the paid period.
5. Failed payments and involuntary churn
If your payment method fails, we attempt to charge again up to 3 times over 7 days (this is handled by Paddle, our payment processor). After the third failure, the subscription is paused and you're notified by email. Reactivate at any time by updating your payment method.
6. Chargebacks
Please contact us before filing a chargeback. We're a small team and always prefer to refund directly. Chargebacks are billed back to us by the payment processor and slow our response to other customer requests.
7. Pricing changes
We do not retroactively change pricing for existing customers. If we raise prices, you're notified at least 30 days in advance and may cancel before the new pricing takes effect. Your current rate stays locked for as long as you maintain a continuous subscription.
8. Discount codes (founder / education / OSS contributor)
Founder discount (DMBOX_FOUNDER) is limited to the first
100 paying customers and applies for the lifetime of the subscription as
long as it remains active without cancellation. Education and OSS
contributor discounts are reviewed annually; we'll email you 30 days
before any change.

10. Governing terms
This Refund Policy is part of the DMBox Terms of Service and is governed by the same jurisdiction clause. Where this policy conflicts with the Terms, the more customer-friendly interpretation applies.
